French Photography Gear Retailers are Fucking Assholes
I'm trying to buy a Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX APO II MACRO HSM telephoto lens with a Nikon mount. The lens can be bought on French sites (like pixmania or missnumerique) at around 1000€ [1] & [2]. You can buy it from B&H at around 800$, if you take into account the euro/dollar rate and the french VAT (20%) it costs 690€ [3]. (There is no other taxes except the VAT applicable when importing this to France) Why is there such a difference ? [1] Pixmania price [2] Missnumerique price [3] B&H price

how big are shipping fees (I am lazy, I don't want to register and check by myself) ...
I bet it's less than 300€, of course ...
Just after this post, I've asked the Missnumerique support about the reasons behind the price difference...
> > Cordialement, > > Votre service clients Miss Numerique. > Email : clients@missnumerique.com (puke) Warranty conditions are offered worldwide by the manufacturer (it costs 0), having a manual translated to french is the manufacturer responsibility (it costs 0)...
Maybe there are some costs attached to importing those to warehouses in France (border taxes, etc...), so that they can ship quicker. Also, the website has people to feed, so they would obvisously keep a margin.
Still, 20%, that's not a margin, that's the middle of the page ph (whishing Fermat had the kind of margin Carrefour makes)
border taxes = 0% (according to my mother wich is an agent of French Customs)
The only tax applicable is the VAT (19.6%) and it's already included in the prices described in the post ! |
